Gabriel Rojas

Sociology

Gabriel Rojas is a third-year Ph.D. student in Sociology at the University of Chicago and a Research Assistant with the UChicago Justice Project. His research focuses on the political economy of policing, social movements, and urban private-public partnerships. He uses mixed-methods and theoretically critical approaches to assess how power operates through public institutions, private entities, and communities. Gabriel’s past work examined how policing technology companies respond to social activist criticism. His current research investigates how corporate, nonprofit, religious, and political elite endorse and promote product endorsements for unregulated policing technologies. At the same time, he is interested in understanding how these groups may serve as local brokers that shape the meaning of public safety in American cities. Before starting his Ph.D., Gabriel worked as an Impact and Innovation Associate at A Better Chicago. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology (with distinction) and Economics from Yale University.
